Mothering by MOM
I met Margaret McKinley Owens at a resort in Northern Minnesota way back in 2000 and we have met once a year every year since. In 2007 she heard rumor that I was building websites and asked if I would look at her existing site to see what can be done.
She had a simple static site built with included PHP files and was looking for a soothing elegant site to replace it. I thought this would be an opportunity to create my first production WordPress site. She had all the content in place and categorized like she wanted so the content structure was done.
The first version my rework used a design that I borrowed from one of the showcase items on CSS ZenGarden. I used the layout and onion skin overlays and removed all the existing images to create something more MOM specific but after a couple months of negotiations with the original designer we were not able to come to an agreement on a licensing price. We used another WordPress template for the next few months. (Sorry, no screenshot)
At the time I was really improving my Joomla skills and in 2008 migrated MOM over to that platform using a template with a similar elegant style of the ZenGarden style. In early 2009, we upgraded to Joomla 1.5. I was paid with resort registration at our annual gathering.
Used a stylized Celtic Friendship Knot as her logo. Plans for the future are a nice Flash video using her logo. I must develop some ActionScript skills for this adventure.
Using Highslide JS to display the gallery. JoomlaNook made the Joomla HS extension that allows for use of the Highslide JS for the Photo Gallery
